Bummed After being nostalgic for the good old days of WWF wrestling After being reminded of the Ultimate Warrior pillow buddy I never got After geeking out that he was inducted into the WWE hall of fame News broke that the Ultimate Warrior is gone Happy childhood memories mixed with today's sadness I suppose That's what life is constantly about Thanks for being an epic part of our childhood Warrior You will be missed Something monumental has happened
At least I think it is monumental After an editing session My friend may have convinced me To play D & D This is something completely foreign completely new completely nerdy I have never played this kind of game My mind races as to who my character will be A mage? A rogue? A warrior? Not sure, but I am sorta, kinda, maybe just a little bit excited At the nerdy possibilities of this new thing This will be a test of my imagination And of my patience Let's see how this goes Wood burns in this cool spring night The smell of fire pierces the air It reminds me of evenings far away Sleeping under the stars The warmth of a campfire The sound of a creek flowing by The sound of summer It's seems to be quickly approaching It feels like change is quickly coming this way And for once I am gladly welcoming the new beginnings Inspired by today's Spring Cleaning Spring cleaning now Purging our space from what we no longer need Letting go of excess Creating space Being intentional with what to let go And what we want to welcome to our home Spring cleaning then Memories of spending Saturdays dusting with my parents Windex in one hand, a rag in the other Cleaning our home as a family While Abba or YMCA blasted from our stereo 70s disco was the soundtrack of our day Laughing as we cleared the dust and the cobwebs accumulated from winter Stirring up memories of a life that's past Creating space for the future Letting go and moving forward Spring Cleaning I missed one on Friday, so I shall make it up with two today! Here is the day 4 entry! Love Missing Love tonight Singing karaoke, you were in my thoughts Wishing you were with us Even though you weren't there Your spirit truly was As we sang sappy love songs As we laughed over Japanese goodies As we did our traditional birthday club celebration Love, you were there You fight that warrior fight You are an inspiration You are always on our minds Love, you will win this battle You will soon be at one of our next birthday club get togethers. It'll be for your birthday We'll toast to you and all your warrior woman ways We'll eat, drink, and be merry But most of all we'll be with you Inspired by my dear friend Love who is currently fighting the good fight against Leukemia. More info on her battle can be found at http://teamlovell.com Number 43 paints
This is what the NBC Nightly News told me today Interviewed by his daughter A daughter whom I read about while 43 was 43 Who no longer is the girl I thought of as a party girl, a woo girl Who is now an NBC correspondent? Yes question mark. 43 is 43 in his answers about his paintings His nervous snicker interjects his responses He acknowledges that he's not a great painter He says he takes painting very seriously That he's studied painting for the first time What world would we have lived in if he studied painting before he was 43? Wishful thinking on my part For me to imagine a different era of 43 An era that embraced painting, embraced art, embraced anything other than war And as the camera lingers on paintings that feel like they could be out of Wes Anderson's Royal Tenenbaum's I think to myself This is a Dave Chappell skit Chappell's going to come out and say something hilarious, say something witty, say something to point out the ridiculousness of 43 painting But the story ends. 43 paints and that's the end of the news cycle for today Yup 43 paints Minutes flash slowly Time mocks the desire to Head home safely now My try at a haiku about heading home.
Day 2 complete! Inspired by a Facebook post from a friend, I am going to try and write a poem a day for the month of April. This month happens to be National Poetry Month. Many many moons ago I wrote poetry. In high school I wrote love poems when I knew nothing about love. In college I wrote angry spoken word becaus I was in college and that's what one does. And now, now as an adult I will attempt to write a poem a day for National Poetry Month. It's Tuesday Not just any Tuesday But Tuesday Night Cafe Tuesday Surrounded by old friends Listening to nine year olds recite poems about what it's like to be Japanese American. Hearing songs sung by friends about heartache Watching the husband dj in between sets, playing the records he so dutifully collects Harmonies echoing off the walls of Little Tokyo Community gathering and coming together This is happily home. And it's Tuesday I think this poem shall be called "it's Tuesday" Good luck to anyone else trying to do a poem a month this month! |
