In the past two years so much has happened. Nieces and nephews born. Friends and family have gotten hitched. Dear friends have left this earth and moved on to places without pain.
My 2015 family mind map inspires me everyday. When I leave work I see it and it reminds me of three important things.
Be Brave
Be Happy
Be Loved
In my two month absence I believe I'm trying to live this mantra.
In the past couple weeks I've made good on "Be Brave."
I entered a writing contest that challenged me to write a short story that was out of my comfort zone. And while it wasn't picked, the rejection is one I am happy with. Because it is proof that I tried. That I will continue to try.
And I'm also on the line up for Family Reunion, a talk story show.
When I committed to this, I thought. "It's cool. It'll be like Tuesday Night. I'll be all good." But it hit me that this show to me is more than that. Although technically not billed as such, its a comedy show. And now I'm nervous that I'm going to go up and do a story.
The nerves confirm that I'm getting out of my comfort zone. That I am challenging myself. That I am moving forward with "being brave."
And while the mantra is three things. "Be Brave" is the biggest sticking point for me. I challenge myself everyday to live by those words.
Here's to more stories, more podcasts, and a happy new year.
And if you'd like to join me on my journey of being brave, see you at the Family Reunion Show this coming Thursday, February 26th. Echoes Under Sunset: 1310 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles, California 90026. Tickets available at disorientedcomedy.com
