I'm happy to announce the return of Color Your Troubles Away! 2017 is the year of Get Shit Done. Collaborating with community folks motivates me on getting CYTA done! Quite excited to be joining the Diggin' Sunday family on providing the coloring meditation while they provide everyone with the vinyl melodies to help soothe, inspire, and motivate our minds.
Color Your Troubles Away + Diggin Sunday RSVP here or by clicking on the pic above Sunday, January 29th, 1-5pm Tribal Cafe 1651 W. Temple St., Historic-Filipinotown 90026 It's October already! Insanity! I wasn't able to finish out the Oblivious Birthday Gratitude posts. However 22 posts was a good run. October is here which means several things like October Baseball. Dodgers are in the playoffs and I can't wait for their run this season. I cried my eyes out when Vin Scully called his last game at Dodger Stadium. I was listening in my car when Vin gave his last words to the fans and they played a clip of him singing Wind Beneath My Wings. This is a picture of me sobbing in my car. I couldn't handle it. I was the crying emoji at that moment. October also means Filipino American History Month. And with that is the Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture this Saturday, October 8th from 10-8pm at Echo Park Lake. More info can be found here: FPAC Samu't Sari. I will be at FPAC wearing multiple hats. I'll be there at the This Filipino American Life booth repping for TFAL! We'll be talking to artists and folks attending the festival. Share your FPAC stories with us! Another hat I'm wearing is the Short Flags Docu hat! Tsismis Council has planned a short flags meet up at FPAC this year. We want to capture your stories. Show us how it's done. Bring your flags and teach us! And if you feel like coloring stop by the Generasyon Pavilion! Color Your Troubles Away is providing coloring sheets for FPAC this year. Color some Filipino themed and inspired sheets! It's going to be an insanely busy Saturday and I can't wait to spend it with you all at FPAC! September is my birthday month. I've been trying to think of ways to celebrate this year. The past year has been quite a doozy in both good times and not so good times. I'm going to attempt to post once a day to show my gratitude for being on this earth. Back in the livejournal/xanga days posting once a day was easy. Now it feels a bit daunting. But I'm up for the challenge! On Oblivious Birthday Gratitude Day 1 I am thankful for my internet home. This space has transitioned from an idea to a tumblr to my own dot com. Thank you to everyone who keeps up with all the obliviousness. In planning out for this month be prepared for more obliviousness, mushy posts about friends and family, and fangirl posts about things that get me through the day. September also marks the one year anniversary of Color Your Troubles Away! Last September I started Color Your Troubles Away as a way to destress & spend time with friends. Celebrate Color Your Troubles Away one year anniversary with me on Thursday, September 22nd! RSVP here: Color Your Troubles Away: Super September
Color Your Troubles Away: June Pride. Join us on Tuesday, June 28th from 7pm-9pm at The Park's Finest. CYTA will be partnering with API Equality-LA in honor of Pride this month! Last night's Color Your Troubles Away + Beats & Eats with Sessions Los Angeles at The Park's Finest was so amazing. We packed the restaurant with folks who vibed out to music from Sessions LA, enjoyed swear word and notorious rbg coloring sheets, and ate delicious food.
The night also felt like a family reunion. There's a picture of me smiling like a cheesy kindergartener with two Sessions youth that I haven't seen in years. Jaffar is a former student turned instructor who at one point I promised I would take him to Disneyland when he finished college. (The promise still stands!) The thing that tripped me out the most was his brother. I kept telling Abdul that I used to be taller than him! These kids will always be my little brothers and sisters. They've gone from knuckleheads in SIPA's conference room to grown ass folks handling everyday life. Thank you to everyone who came out last night! Sessions LA is preparing to start programming this month. Fund raised from last night will go towards getting programming in gear! If you enjoyed the music and vibe last night. If you want to support the youth of Los Angeles with community programming that turns their experiences into beats, rhymes, and lyrics. I highly recommend you support Sessions LA. They are currently running a Crowdrise campaign: Keep Sessions LA Alive. You can add your dollars to good music and good people.

Thanks to the homie Michelle who told me about this coloring book. I immediately ordered it from Amazon and had it in my hands. Several sheets have been copied and are ready for Color Your Troubles Away + Beats & Eats, Tuesday, March 29th, 7-9pm at The Park's Finest in Historic-Filipinotown.
The art work in this book is rad and the swear words are hilarious. I can't wait to share these sheets with everyone at the next Color Your Troubles Away. I am super excited to collaborate with Sessions LA. Sessions LA has been working at different high school sites, however they are relaunching back in Historic-Filipinotown at the Pilipino Workers Center. By coloring with us and dining on the excellent Corn Bread Bibingka or Mama Leah's Coco Beef, you will be helping out the community in multiple ways. Supporting local business and supporting Sessions LA plus getting some stress relief in by coloring an awesome page from this book like "Moose Knuckle!" RSVP on Facebook by clicking on the flyer. Or you can RSVP via the form below. And if you have funds that you want to donate for that tax write off before tax day, click on the Keep Sessions LA Alive image and donate to their Crowdrise campaign. See you soon friends! Oblivious Out!
