Oblivious Birthday Gratitude Day 6. I am thankful for Tuesday Night Cafe! Tuesday Night Cafe is a public art & performance series held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month in Little Tokyo. Tuesday Night Cafe takes place in the courtyard of East West Players which is located on 120 Judge John Aiso St, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Tuesday Night Cafe is home for both Mike and I. He was the resident dj for several years. I was a featured performer when I was living another life that involved me writing poetry. For many years I have staked out a corner of the courtyard with the other loud Filipinos who brought camping chairs and coolers of beverages as we saw something magical take place on stage. There is a show tonight. I plan on being there. I will probably be in that corner of the courtyard once more because old habits are hard to break and that spot feels like home. Tuesday Night is family. Tuesday Night is home. Tuesday Night is something special and I'm grateful to have it be a part of our lives.

In terms of my life I think of several mascots that have defined my life. I went to Pinecrest elementary school where this weird logo with a Pine tree that formed a face defined my childhood self. Then I transferred to St. Genevieve Elementary School where I became a Spartan. Followed by St Genevieve High School where I was then a Valiant. UC Irvine made me an Anteater. USC made me a Trojan.
Tuesday Night Cafe made me a TNC-er. It will forever be a part of my life. Mike was the resident dj for so many years. I've performed poetry and told stories at TNC. This is family. I may not recognize the audience anymore, but it still feels like home every time I step into that courtyard.Tuesday Night Cafe is now 18 years old. And in the month of July, TNC is holding a fundraising party to fund a season's worth of shows. See you on Tuesday, July 19th!

Donate now: http://bit.ly/TNPdonate2 And find out more at http://www.tuesdaynightproject.org/keeptnfree When I met Sean he was a kid who wore really baggy hoodies, trucker caps tilted to the side, and baggy pants. He most likely had some kind of social conscious t-shirt on and liked to talk about Asian American issues. The kid was a spitfire. This was way back in my grad school days, which I can sadly say was a long ass time ago. Now Sean is the current holder of the Mr. Hyphen title and a producer of Tuesday Night Cafe. The guy seems to always be running around from some workshop to another meeting all while trying to choreograph a dance routine. Check out the latest Oblivious Interview with Sean Miura who is one reason why the #keepTNfree campaign exists and challenges YOU, yes you, person under 35, to donate to this campaign!
