Inspired by a Facebook post from a friend, I am going to try and write a poem a day for the month of April. This month happens to be National Poetry Month. Many many moons ago I wrote poetry. In high school I wrote love poems when I knew nothing about love. In college I wrote angry spoken word becaus I was in college and that's what one does. And now, now as an adult I will attempt to write a poem a day for National Poetry Month. It's Tuesday Not just any Tuesday But Tuesday Night Cafe Tuesday Surrounded by old friends Listening to nine year olds recite poems about what it's like to be Japanese American. Hearing songs sung by friends about heartache Watching the husband dj in between sets, playing the records he so dutifully collects Harmonies echoing off the walls of Little Tokyo Community gathering and coming together This is happily home. And it's Tuesday I think this poem shall be called "it's Tuesday" Good luck to anyone else trying to do a poem a month this month!

Welcome to the new Oblivious Nerd Girl website. Since I started Oblivious Nerd Girl Hood Chronicles this past February I've been thinking of ways to update things around my internet house. Tumblr was a great first home, but now I've moved into my own "dot com." The old tumblr will still be up. And if I can figure out how to integrate tumblr into weebly maybe I can add the old posts on here! Until then my "The Beginning" page explains the Oblivious Nerd Girl tumblr early days.
When I first began this journey "hoodnerdgirl" felt like the proper description of what I wanted to write about. I am a nerd girl from the hood. But as the stories progressed I realized that wasn't the most accurate description of who I am. I began to move from "hoodnerdgirl" to "Oblivious Nerd Girl" and now we are here on the Oblivious Nerd Girl 2.0. Building this website reminded me that I have had some kind of home on the internet since I was in high school. Best Friend Jen pointed out that the color scheme reminded her of my high school website. I used an 8bit version of teal on some angelfire or geocities website with really awful html coding. It is out there somewhere with lots of links to random things. If I can find it that may be a story in itself! What's to come on Oblivious Nerd Girl 2.0? More stories from my Oblivious Nerd Girl childhood. More stories about my Oblivious Nerd Girl life now. I'm in the early stages of a feature component where I talk to folks who went to St. Genevieve with me and catch up on all the awesome and rad things they are doing now. Thank you for reading these stories and for supporting Oblivious Nerd Girl. Enjoy Oblivious Nerd Girl 2.0! |
