The ticket also came with a Filipino Heritage Night t-shirt. It was a simple design on a white t-shirt. I think this is my 4th Filipino Heritage Night shirt!
Pops wasn't that big a baseball fan, but he is a LA sports fan, so we would watch Dodger baseball occasionally on tv. My favorite childhood memory is Kirk Gibson's home run in 1988. It was the perfect sports year. The Lakers were NBA champs. The Dodgers were about to clinch it.
"MABU
MABU
MABU-U"
And Strawberry Farm Boy, Valley Twin Joe, and I instantly responded,
"HAY
HAY
HAY!"
After the chant the Dodgers scored. The momentum changed. We chanted some more. The other Filipinos around us got into it too. Dodgers scored 2 runs to put the game up 3-1. This all happened in the 8th inning. Belasario was able to close it out Randy Newman's "I Love LA" played through Chavez Ravine.
A great day for Dodger Baseball indeed!
